YOKOHAMA ARCHIVES OF HISTORY

The place where the 1854 Japan-US Treaty of Peace was concluded was the former British Consulate General, the predecessor of the museum. Precious historical materials on the opening of Japan and the opening of Yokohama are collected in the museum. It is said that Admiral Perry and the Shogunate met in the courtyard of the remaining “onion tree”. The mascot character “Tanemaru”, the 150th anniversary of the opening of the port in 2009, was designed as “The Spirit of Onion Tree”. In the adjacent port opening square, Japan's oldest brick manhole and sewage pipes are on display.
