YOKOHAMA ARCHIVES OF HISTORY

The place where the Japan-US Treaty of Japan-US was signed in 1854 was the former British Consulate General who was the predecessor of the archives. In the hall, valuable historical data on the opening of Japan and the opening of Yokohama are collected. It is said that Admiral Perry and the Shogunate met under the "spring onion tree" in the courtyard which still remains. The port's 150th anniversary mascot character "Tanemaru" was designed as this "spring of onion". In the adjacent open port square, we display the oldest brick manhole and drain pipe in Japan.
