This building was built in the former residence of Yukinoshita, Kamakura, the last place of the master of modern Japanese painting Kiyokata Kaburaki. A Japanese-style building shows a neat appearance in a quiet residential area of Kamakura, the ancient capital. Kiyokata Kaburagi was born in Kanda, Tokyo in the 11th year of Meiji. I grew up familiar with literary arts from an early age, and the beginning of the painting business was from an illustration artist. Later, for the handwriting, the works of the pure and elegant woman, the livelihood of the ordinary people, portraits, and the literary books such as Ichiyo Higuchi and Kyoka Izumi, which I read a lot, were drawn to the people of Ichii. You can feel the eyes of empathy and charity. I have been associated with Kamakura since I set up my house in Liza in 1946. Since 1958, when he received the Order of Culture, he established a painting room here under Yukino, and spent his time until he died at the age of 93 in 1972. In the latter years of his life, Kiyokata called his place "playing with the people's style" and worked on many works on the life of the common people. A lot of sensational Japanese painting works and essays with elegant style are left. In 1994, works and materials and land and buildings were donated with the intent that the bereaved family should tell Kamakura City the place of their paintings and creations for future generations. In response to this, it opened as a memorial museum in April 1998. We hope that all of you will have a peaceful time while remembering the art and life of Kiyokata.
