The park was opened on June 23, 1979 in commemoration of the International Year of the Child on the site of the research institute of Dr. Hitoshi Kihara, a well-known plant geneticist in wheat research. It is a botanical garden. We encourage children to deepen their knowledge of plants while getting close to them and to cultivate a compassionate heart for protecting and nurturing greenery, and we are also conducting activities to spread and educate citizens about greening.
