YOKOHAMA ARCHIVES OF HISTORY

The United States-Japan Peace Treaty was concluded in 1854 at the former British Consulate-General, which was the predecessor of the museum. The museum collects valuable historical data on the opening of Japan and the opening of Yokohama. It is said that Admiral Perry and the Shogunate met under the "Tamagusu Tree" in the courtyard that still remains. "Tanemaru", the mascot character of the 150th anniversary of the opening of the port in 2009, was designed as the "Tamagusu no Ki" In the adjacent port square, there is also an exhibition of the oldest brick manhole and sewage pipe in Japan.
