YOKOHAMA ARCHIVES OF HISTORY

The place where the Japan-US Treaty of Peace and Amity was signed in 1854 was the former British Consulate General, which was the predecessor of the museum. Inside the museum, valuable historical materials on the opening of Japan and the opening of the port of Yokohama are collected. It is said that Admiral Perry and the Shogunate had a meeting under the "Tamagusu Tree" in the courtyard that still remains. In 2009, the 150th anniversary mascot character "Tanemaru" was designed as this "Tamagusu no Ki no Sei". In the adjoining Kaikou Square, you can also see the oldest brick manhole and sewer pipe in Japan.
